I'm in the market for a Wacom Intuos pad since my old Graphire3 has gone to hardware heaven.

I'm just wondering what people's experiences have been like with these. Are they a big step up from the Graphires? They're pretty expensive and I'm looking around for the cheapest retailer out there to get one, I'm just not sure I trust a2zcomputers.com.

And last question, is it worth getting a larger active area? I'm pretty well used to a 4"x5", should I spend the extra cash on getting a 6"x8"?

I went ahead and shelled out $315 on an Intuos3. I'll let you guys know what I think.

And just so this thread isn't totally pointless, here's what I'm going to be able to finish when I do get the Tablet:

Is that completely done by freehand?

What size Intuos3 did you get? I'm wondering if a 4x5 is all I need too.

Post your thoughts after you use your Intuos3, I'm really curious.

I have the A4 Intuos 3 and love it. Had it for about 6 months and its a hell of a lot easier to use than a mouse for art. In fact i've gotten so used to it i dont use my mouse except for gaming. I chose the A4 for the increased precision the larger work area provides, and because i use A4 paper as my primary art medium.

I havent worked with any other tablet so i couldnt really compare, but i will say that this tablet has been worth every penny and couldnt imagine using anything smaller. My productivity has increased leaps and bounds since buying it.

I've had a number of tablets over the years, original graphire, intous then a graphire 2 and now a graphire 3 6x8. I have used the newer Intous tablets and will say they offer a great deal of improvement for movement and also pressure sesitivity. I just didn't need it for anything work related so I stuck with the graphire as its just a hobby of mine.

Alright, I've had the Intuos3 for a few days now and I'm very impressed. The overall quality is fantastic.

First off just have a look:

The pen is much higher quality, you get extra tips for it, the pad has sliders and buttons for both left and right handed users, and even the pen base is miles better in quality.

The entire top is silky smooth and absolutely beautiful to behold as well.

As for performance, there is a huge improvement over the Graphire 3. The sensitivity is impecibly more accurate. I can truly not feel a point where the tablet "clicks" on, the pressure sensitivity rolls on completely naturally without any feeling that theres a computer between your hand and the monitor. The precision of movement is also much better. You can ease the cursor across the entire screen pixel by pixel, not skipping or lagging, always consistent.

Given the steep price, I'm very satisfied with all of the quality I've gotten with this, but for that same reason I can't reccomend it over a Graphire for anyone whose not completely serious about their digital work.
