After a couple weeks of getting parts in I fired up my new 5820K build a couple days ago. At first I couldn't get the machine to overclock at all for shit. Now, 4000mhz under 1.19v(haven't tried lower), 54'C max temp with all the stress tests I've been able to try. I'm sure this thing has room to grow.

At first all I could get was 3800 no matter what voltage I set it at(stock and up to 1.35vcore). ...one stupid setting. I have a feeling the 4.0ghz will run at a lower voltage. :)

Also, this is my first experience with an SSD drive too. I was shocked at how fast Winblows10 installed from a USB drive. ...well less than 10min, probably closer to 5min. Boot time - the time it takes from hitting the power button to when the option to go into the BIOS takes more time than from that BIOS option point to desktop. I haven't timed it, but it has to be close to 10 seconds or less. ....far cry different from my 1 to 3 minutes from my 6 year old Phenom II 945 with 5400rpm disk.

I'll see how far the CPU will go in the next few days, but will probably run this thing around the 4ghz area. It is already smoking fast compared to my AMD rig. I only play (2) games(Diablo3 and BF1942) - so I don't need all that much horsepower.

yea installing win 10 from usb3 flash to ssd is amazing fast...less than 5 min i think...most of it takes about a min lol
 
Nice upgrade from the Phenom, 5820k and BF1942, that's like cooking a burger on a jet engine! :LOL:

True! It is definitely overkill for BF1942. It did help smooth out Diablo 3 though. And with the nVidia card I'm not having the weird map issue that the AMD driver set caused(cant play some maps).

It also smoothed out my non-gaming multitasking, which my PC is used 80% of the time for. ...CAD, big pdf file viewing/editing, online mapping, spreadsheets galore, etc - all of which are using being used at the same time, and multiple instances of some of them.

Rock solid. I'm not pushing the envelope though. It has been running at 4ghz at 1.19vcore for the past couple weeks 24/7. I've yet to see what it can do, ie: lower/higher voltages and frequencies.

RAM is Geil 3000mhz CL15 or CL16(cant remember), but at the moment I'm only running it at 2400mhz. One day I'll get the time to mess with memory speeds.
 
Is 4.5ghz @ 1.2vcore acceptable? I ran CPU-Z's bench stress for an hour without any hiccup.

I haven't tried higher yet.

lol you might want to try something a little more stressful than cpuz....idk maybe asus real bench. cpuz stress test isnt saying much
