w00t! Abit P35-E

Vanilla == the Abit IP35, i.e. Not -E, -V or Pro.
I can find the vanilla board for 120$ (95$ AMIR) at Mwave, where as the absolute cheapest IP35-E I've found was 99.99$ + ~9$ shipping & tax on top of that. Most -Es seem to start around 120$ or higher as far as I can find, outside of NewEgg who's continually out of stock.

Yea, I've already got all the firewire I need & I don't need the RAID.
Are those the only functional differences between the two boards, can't recall off-hand. Manufacturing differences like caps, etc? Have to check specs again when I get home I guess.

he means the plain IP35, not E or Pro. the middle one. same board layout as the E but with RAID and firewire.

edit: Hauki beat me to it :)

vanilla is just a term used for something plain.

take icecream for example. vanila flavour is plain and white. likewise to the abit ip35

Makes more sense to call the Abit IP35-E vanilla, feature wise, it's more vanilla than a vanilla ice cream!!!

so basically the ip35-e is 3rd place , ip35 is 2nd place and ip35 pro is 1st place?

so now that there is no more ip35-e at the egg, i can get the ip35 and it will be as good?

Can someone post a direct link to this board on Newegg, I am looking but cannot seem to find it.

This seems like a really nice board and something I would be interested in.

Pretty much. They have the same board layout but with minor differences, depending on how you look at it and what you consider minor. The higher-end boards use heatpipes on the chipset cooling. The Pro also has support for uGuru, while the others do not.

NewEgg's showing the IP35-E as deactivated again, instead of simply out of stock.
Anyone have any idea what's up with this model?

for a second i thought i just bought the ip35-e but its the pro :D

hopefully my 1st ever build is good enough to keep me away from buying a console again for a couple of years

apparently they briefly had it back in stock again this morning but it sold out again ...

It really is a great board. Loaded up perfectly, besides the double boot because I haven't updated the BIOS yet, the first time! I can't wait to push it with my newly built rig. I hope they figure out whether or not they want them in stock. More people should be able to grab this gem.

I placed my order today along with the Thermalright 120 eXtreme heatsink. Oh and I got the HX620 despite the price because I knew if I got the 520 I'd have even more buyers remorse.

I was spending so fast that my credit card company blocked my last transaction with newegg because they had placed a fraud alert on my card. I had to call and have it released lol.

Hah, the plastic charges must have been flying. I tend to buy in spurts and that's never happened to me yet.

double boot is when you turn on the computer it goes on then off then on again and boots like normal. some people can live with it others are annoyed of it. beta 14 bios fixes this issue if you don't cut psu power from the wall.

if you talking about CMOS reloaded type thing, then no, this board doesn't have that type of feature.

I want to upgrade to this board but the double boot seems annoying -- I like to turn off my power strip before I leave for work. How many seconds extra are we talking about? That would negate whatever increased bootup speed on a Raptor.

it's only a half dozen seconds or so - but it's cured in later BIOS anyway.

What bios are you using? I have the latest Abit beta for my IP35-E and it doesn't dual boot, unless I completely turn off power to my psu. The previous poster said he turns off the power strip before work and this would have mine reverting back to dual booting.

he's going to get a dual boot from any P35 mobo in that case as it sets the strap.

what air cooling are you guys using on the board to overclock? I want to run my E6600 at 400fsb, do I need a fan on the chipset?

Anyone know how long the included SATA cables are? I would measure them but they're kind of hooked up right now.

These ones seem long even for my CM Stacker but I'm going to play with rerouting them so that might be a good thing. Not quite sure yet.

It will all depend on the overall cooling of your system - what HSF that you use, case airflow etc. & how much voltage that your particular CPU need to run 3.6GHz stable.

the ones in my Pro are ~40cm/16"

I haven't found a need and I'm even using a cooler master hyper tx2 for the cpu (FAR cooler,) seems to be doing a fine job <60C under load even at 3.15.

has anyone maxed out the ram, meaning running 8 gigs of ram. I've had some boards that don't even post with the ram maxed out.

there are certainly some users running 8GB in the IP35 series.
I could imagine that it may need some voltage tweaks here & there to get it stable though.
