w/cing a laptop? need some ideas...

I got the idea of watercooling my lappy here to make it run a little cooler, and I'm trying to come up with a w/c setup that will work. Due to situations with money and Mother, I need a setup that:

(1) is practically spillproof
(2) is good looking (i.e. no duct tape showing everywhere)
(3) is cheaply and easily constructed with very common tools and materials

My current idea is to use a chillmat sort of device that has water circulating through it, connected in some way to a second box that would contain the pump, radiator, reservoir, and radiator fan. Everything must be able to run off of 120VAC unless I can find a very, very inexpensive PSU that will allow me to still use only one plug.

Any help, ideas, and/or suggestions are appreciated, tho flames will not be.
 
Why make the mobile laptop (its only redeeming feature as a computer and the main reason for buying it) stationary and heavy?
 
I agree. Now if you make a water cooling solution that is portable you'll get the big $$$

so work on that. And then post the plans here first ;)
 
portable watercooling is the idea... i want to use a thin, chillmat-like waterblock for the entire underside of the comp. this would be connected to a separate box that i would want to weigh 10lbs or less. this box would house the reservoir, radiator, pump, etc. both the guts box and the waterblock would be portable.
 
So... when you board the plan with your laptop, and you have a strange box with tubes coming out of it that looks NOTHING LIKE A BOMB... you can get your frag on at 30,000 feet?
 
i don't plan on taking it on trips. i plan on using my targus chillmat on trips, if at all. i plan on using this thing in my dorm and at home when i am on long vacations.

and if this thing ever actually runs well enough to frag something, i'll eat a sock (and post pics)
 
Are you planning to take the bottom off of your laptop? Because you really can't bolt a waterblock easily to a laptop processor... You say you're going to use a chillmat, but I really don't know how much better it will do. Antec sells laptop coolers, just effectively a big heatsink and fan, that will fit under your laptop. Otherwise you might be shorting out something with the bottom off your laptop... and then switching it out would be a pain.

My suggestion: Go to your local grocery store and hardware store. Get a small aluminum box. Get some of those little ice packs you put in your lunch box and throw them in the aluminum (to make sure your laptop doesn't get all wet with condensation). It'll be real cool, and then you can just take your laptop right off it! ;)

those laptop coolers are also called chillmats. what i meant by waterblock was a box with a copper topplate that would contact the entire underside of the lappy case. this would (theoretically) transfer heat sufficiently to keep my lappy under 100 F.
