Is this the version where the light shines around the keys, or actually shines through the keys (where the letters on the keys light up)?

This is the PZ30AU model... the lights shine THROUGH the keys, not just around. I've got this one.

my one question is how many people actually need to look at their keyboard to type? besides for the obvious "wow my keyboard lights up" factor, i dont see any other practical purpose for this. =X

I do, I'm a sucky typer! But the main reason I purchased one was to help me find "WASD" in the dark at our lan parties (especially if I'm drunk!).

I need to be able to see where my keyboard is when in the dark. My computers are in my basement, so when the lights are out, it is really dark down here.

That being said, I am more interested in the keyboard because from everything I have heard about it, it is a great feeling keyboard. Halfway between a desktop keyboard and a notebook keyboard. I like the feel of my notebook's keyboard better than my desktop's, so I thought this might be the perfect solution. Can any owners of this keyboard comment on this?

Also, who needs windows in their cases? Neon lights? LED fans? What does that do to improve functionality? Nothing. It takes more power. But, you know what? It is aesthetically pleasing though. Who needs a 55" widescreen HDTV? No one. But it sure is nicer to look at than a 13" black and white. It doesn't give you any more information or different weather reports, but I would rather watch those weather reports on a 55".

If you are in the market for a new keyboard (like me), this is a good price for a quality keyboard. MS sells their keyboards for about the same price, and this one looks (and sounds) like a much better keyboard.

Damn I just bought it last week for $50 shipped. Oh well, the keyboard is worth it. I have another fully lit keyboard but the keys suck on it. The Eclipse feels great.

I love the feel of mine ... my only complaint is it hates to be connected to a KVM switch.

I have had one of these for about a month now. I like it but there are a couple of problems I have with it. First, it lies a little too flat. I use the wrist rest to put under the feet to raise it a little more. Secondly, my biggest problem is the the light through the keys which was the main reason I bought it. If you have a large CRT monitor near the keyboard like I do, the light from it will wash out the light through the keys and make them hard to read. Maybe it's just mine, but the light through it is just not that bright unless it is a totally dark environment.

Where are you? Its exactly $10.06 to California, Florida, Texas, Nebraska, Missouri, and New York. You must live in the one state where its cheaper.

Not the greatest deal at all: $49.99 at bestbuy on sale this week.

edut: this price is for the Eclipse "through the key" backlit one.

What the heck I need a keyboard now and I have a bestbuy across the street from where I live, oh yeah and no tax in my state either.

Very nice keyboard. I was worried that they key action would feel cheap but it's a very nice feel, and quiet too. It is a pretty flat keyboard even with the back stands extended, but feels natural. Moving up from an old IBM 101 buckling spring (clickey) keyboard that unfortunately isn't compatible with my new KVM. The feedback in the touch is similar to the collapsing spring but not as defined / sharp. Firtunately it's exactly the same layout with the big backspace etc. I like it.

I'm happy with the Saitek "Executive" that I got off w00t for $19.99. I find the light around the keys to be too blinding, good thing I didn't get the light through the keys version :)

There are three levels to the lighted keys - "bright", "low" and "off".

The laser etching through the key itself is backed with a darker, clear...ummm...plastic, I guess. The surface of the key is very shiney. The net result is that, in a very brightly lit environment, the keyboard shows as dark lettering on light backgrounds. In a dark environment, you get the blue LEDs lighting the letters and the background is obviously darker.

It's a nice mix - and the feel is....yeah, it's pretty sweet. It touches a lot like laptop keys - very smooth. But they are full PC-keyboard-sized buttons, which makes it easy to work on.

    VERY nice keyboard!
