VPU Recovery?

I've been recently having a problem with my video card. But I just went to BestBuy and exchanged it for a new one and I still have the problem.

I get the ATi VPU Recovery error when playing games. This is the only time it happens as well. I'm trying to isolate the problem. I think it might be the ram since that's the only major hardware I've installed lately since this problem has started happening.

I've already called ATi about it, but I think it's something with my computer. They gave me this guide.

I've updated my bios.
Updated my VIA Chipset drivers.
Even increased my APG voltage from 1.55 to 1.6

Any other suggestions anyone would have to solve this problem? I'm probably gonna switch out my memory to see if it has the same problem. But I really don't want to reformat, but if the advice you guys give me dont work, I may have to :(

System Specs:
AMD64 2800+ (Newcastle) stock speeds
ABIT KV8 (Regular) Updated Bios
ATi X800 XT PE (stock speeds)
2x512mb Corsair XMS PC3200 @ 2.5-3-3-6

Nevermind I just reformated, hopefully it fixed it.
 
Ok, it just happened again, anyone have any suggestions? I'm about to switch out my ram.
 
Are Fastwrites on or off? Fastwrites cause a lot of problems on some people's machines. I would first check to see if having Fastwrites off fixes your problem, and then remove the RAM. If you still can't get it fixed, maybe try a different driver version? You can get previous versions from www.guru3d.com.

Fastwrite is disabled (off). I just switched out the ram, and the problem hasn't showed up yet. I was using the Cat 4.11 when the problem started happening, and updated to the 4.12 and still had the problem. If the ram didnt fix it, I might try the cat 4.10
 
I guess the RAM fixed it? With the drivers, I meant installing the ones that came on the CD with your card or trying older versions. If about five different drivers don't work, then I would think about something else. Also, did you try turning VPU recovery off in the ATI Control Panel? Maybe it's not detecting the error correctly and maybe there really isn't an error?
 
I had this same problem with my card 9600xt after installing new drivers. When you install new drivers, it doesn't completely remove the old ones. I'm not at home right now so I don't remember the exact directory that they get installed to but, I think it's some where under ATI. Any way if you go in to that directory and delete all the folder, except for the one with the same name as your current set of drivers it should help. That's what ended up fixing my problems.
 
i wouldnt be so sure as to say the ram is responsable.

Better put the ram back in and run memtest overnight....
 
Well I just got all the parts to build my shuttle system, I'm going to try the corsair (better) ram in that and see if it still has the problem. Otherwise it's going on an another RMA adventure.
