I'm looking to replace my Dell Inspiron 8200 with a Vpr Matrix 180B5. I was wondering if the 180B5 is a reliable laptop? And is the performance good?

Here's what I'm going from:
Dell Inspiron 8200 1.8GHz P4-M, 256MB PC2100, 40GB 5400RPM, 24X DVD/CD-RW, Floppy, 32MB GF4 MX440, 15" UXGA (1600x1200 res)

To:
Vpr Matrix 180B5 1.8GHz P4-M, 512MB PC2100, 30GB 4200RPM, 8X DVD/CDRW, 32MB Radeon 7500, 15" XGA, 802.11b wireless

Pros:
256MB PC2100 to 512MB PC2100
No wireless to 802.11b wireless
Weight: 8+lbs to 5.8lbs
Height: 1.8" to 1.16"
Looks: Big and bulky to Slim and sexy ;)
Savings: Sold Inspiron 8200 for $910, buying Vpr Matrix for $700 = savings of $210

Cons:
40GB 5400RPM to 30GB 4200RPM
24X/10X/24X/8X DVD/CD-RW to 8X/8X/24X/8X DVD/CD-RW
Floppy to No Floppy
15" UXGA (1600x1200) to 15" XGA (1024x768)

Not sure:
32MB GF4 MX440 to 32MB Radeon 7500 (what's faster and by how much)

put bluntly, they suck. they run hot and are poorly designed.

Have you tried one before? What's poorly designed about them? And how hot do they run? Thanks

i tried one at best buy

poor design is the tiny ass mouse buttons.

hot? hot enough to hurt my hand feeling the bottom, and really warm on the keyboard.

best buy sells an emachine laptop in the range of 900-1100, be an upgrade and you wouldnt be out much money.

I'd rather not spend more than that amount. Trying to save some money here. My options were either a SFF or mid to low end desktop PC or an inexpeneive laptop. The tiny mouse buttons won't be a problem with me as I have a microsoft notebook mouse I will use. I can probably ebar with the temp.

try a mid-spec gateway m305 or low spec m505.
failing that, get a thinkpad on ebay :)

Vpr matrix is sort of boxy looking. You could compare it to Sams Choice to Walmart. It is sort of Bestbuy's brand of computer. They are trying to get a foothold in the system market.

Looks doesn't matter much to me. I'm fine with it's look. I'm just wondering if it'll be reliable for a year or so. I'll probably get bored of it in a few months and sell it and buy something new anyways. I've only had the I8200 for 3 weeks.
