VP171s refresh and colour depth help

I just got a Viewsonic VP171s, and I'm using it via analog with my ti4200

I think the optimal settings are 60hz at 24bit-depth, but I can only select 16 or 32bit, and when I try 60hz at 16 bit, half the screen is shifted off. So I'm stuck at 16-bit at 70hz.

I installed the monitor drivers, how can I set it up? Any overrides with riva tuner?
 
24 bit color isn't an option, set it to 32, and just leave the refresh at 60 hz. LCD's don't have refresh rates.

I agree :) lcds dont refresh like a crt does so refresh rate in an lcd isnt important but he might want to use 70hz if he's going to be using vsync to get more fps
 
24-bit colour exists. Thats why LCD's are 16.7m colours.
And along with the optimal resolution at 1280x1024, the optimal refresh rate is 60hz.

Could it be my drivers?

edit: okay i can use 32 bit, but 60hz still doesnt work
 
Some info about 24 and "32" bit color ;)
Video boards for the last few years are 24 bit color (called True Color). Note that there is no 32 bit color. The confusion is that 24 bit color mode normally uses 32 bit video mode today, referring to the efficient 32 bit accelerator chips (word size). The 24 bit color mode and so-called 32 bit video mode show the same 24 bit colors, the same 3 bytes RGB per pixel. 32 bit mode simply discards one of the four bytes (wasting 25% of video memory), because having 3 bytes per pixel severely limits video acceleration functions. Processor chips can only copy data in byte multiples (8, 16, 32, or 64 bits). A 24 bit copy done with a hardware video accelerator would require three 8-bit transfers per pixel instead of one 32-bit transfer. 32 bit video mode is for speed, and it shows 24 bit color.

yeah that's what I just read :). It was confusing because earlier today there was a 24-bit option on another computer.

just stuck about getting the optimal timing to work

edit: okay, well I fixed it it seems. manual adjustments :D
