Things are getting very interesting in the latest round of the Verizon/Vonage patent infringement hearings. A final ruling is expected sometime this summer.

Anne mentioned that it appears Judge Dyk said the court was in something of a bind because Verizon insisted on an injunction that could effectively shut down the provider of voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services. Because Vonage’s life is on the line, he suggested a “middle ground” approach may be necessary.

Verizon is not going to stop until Vonage is shut down or they buy them out thus screwing the current customer base that Vonage has. Sometimes I think that this suit happened because Verizon became jealous of Vonage.

I agree upto the jealousy part. Fact is that Vonage is a competitor and Verizon was simply in a position to take that competition away, simple business.

It will be sad to see Vonage go under. It may have some quircks but I am very satisfied overall with its service (I have been a customer for almost two years). Unfortunately Vonage is just too small to stand up to a giant like Verizon. Verizon will throw around money to the right people and make sure Vonage dies quickly. I am sure all of the telecos would love to see VOIP banned outright. Cheap and all around better than anything they offer.
