basically my setup includes an older audigy gamer, and some cheap altec speakers. The problem? besides the cheap speakers, my volume is REALLY low, and i've switched between onboard and the card audio, so i'm guessing my speakers are the problem? HELP

I'll assume your using windows?
Open up the windows volume control panel. Make sure Wave is set to 100%, and then set master to about 50%. Does that make it any better?
If not, do your speakers have a volume control that you have played around with?

I mean, you won't get F-15 Jet engine level loudness, but there is no reason they shouldn't at least be loud.

My guess is that the speaker's don't have theyr own power supply, if so don't expect too much from em.

believe me im not that dumb. I've tried mixing the onboard volume controls and turning every software setting to max. Especially during videos, the volume gets so low i have to turn up the volume practically to max to get any sound out of it. Well i only spent 30 bucks so ill have to start saving for a decent set eventually. Not right now though i just ordered a laptop that should be getting here next week. headphones work fine for now :D

they were just a cheap bargain buy from fry's. It had the altec name on them but that didn't seem to stop them from making a shitty speaker setup that leaves a static hiss even when your computer is off  . For a 2 piece setup (surround is pointless for my desk area), any suggestions?
