Volume Control in Mac OSx using External soundcards.

Is there a way to control the volume using the keyboard controls when your using a external sound card in OSX. im currently running Behringer FCA202 Firewire audio interface with my KRK rp6 g2

I think if you set it to be the default sound device in the system prefs the keyboard volume control will work the way you want it to.

nope. i had to install soundflower program to gain keyboard controls but the program eventually loses sync with videos but right now its only solution i have found

As far as I'm aware, the keyboard controls are for the built-in audio driver only (unless it's a card in a slot in a PowerMac or Mac Pro, then I think it functions as you'd expect)

Typically external devices have their own dedicated volume pot/slider/selector so there's just nothing for OS X to control. Unless the volume pot is actually a digital rotary encoder that you can automate, and you can bind AppleScript to some software interface which you can trigger via a key remapper, you're out of luck.

the last time i plugged in a usb dac, the keyboard controlled the dac, as long as i selected it for its main audio device.!

One important note:
When using this on OS X - you will NOT have software control of the volume. If you use the TRS audio outputs to connect to a set of studio monitors, you will want to get the Nano Patch or some other in-line audio attenuator.

There is a volume knob on the front of this device, but it is only for the headphone out.

For studio monitors? Probably looking at the aptly-named Mackie Big Knob or something of that nature.

thanks but im trying to locate a "knob" to control volume with my external sound card..somewhat leaning towards the nano patch

went with the nano patch knob and it worked out very well!
