Today, and today only, we're offering a 2-for-1 deal on threads! Get 'em while they're hot! :p

This is kinda related to my other thread about voltmoding an x850 Pro AGP, but this is really more about what it will achieve.

Alright, I have an x850 Pro flashed to an XT. The default clock is about 520/500 (it's actually in decimals, but those are the rounded values). Now, I'm able to overclock to about 530/550, however if I run an artifact scan in ATItool, an artifact appears about once every 10-15 seconds (i.e. not a good sign), however I don't get any of the symtoms of an unstable OC in most games (i.e. no checkerboards, wrong colours, etc.). I still get these artifacts at about 520/520, so much so that I lowered my standard clock (out of 3D games) to 450/450 and in games to the default (520/500).

Anyways, my question is, with regards to the artifacts, will voltmoding my card help aleviate them? Basically, if I voltmod, will I be able to either (a) use the high clock without artifacts, or (b) go to a higher OC before seeing the same artifacts?

Also, on a somewhat unrelated note, I'm using an Arctic Silencer Rev3 on my card (the stock cooler was crap), and until about a week ago it always ran idle at about 30 degrees C. However, I've since upgraded my motherboard to my current one, and I've overclocked it to the max. However, it seems in doing this my idle temperature (even with clocks lowered to 450/450) is at about 43 degrees C! The fan has always run at 100% speed, so it's not that my fan speed is lowered. Does anyone have any idea the reason for a 13 degree C jump in idle temperature? Could it be my motherboard OC? (The AGP freq and volt is default [66, 1.5v]).

(Before you say it, yes I've checked that the cooler is seated properly, I even took it off and put fresh thermal paste on it. The temperatures are still the same).

2 for 1?!?!?!?!?! I WANT FREE 2ND 1900XTX TO CROSSFIRE PLEASE I'LL PAY FOR ONE!!!!

If you volt mod your card it might allow you to get a higher overclock, or not. It might also help let the electrons in the GPU allow it to finish jumping the bridge contacts allows it to be more stable at these clocks and higher.

I do suggest that if you do not notice any artifacts IN GAME and ultra stablity is not what you are looking to achive then ignore the fact that ATiTool says there are artifacts if in game as long as benchmarks/games do not show any visable artifacts and do not cause random crashes.

ATiTool has been known to give false positives as well as not detecting artifacts when there actually are.

//Chilly Out (yes I realise its a long run on sentense, suck it up :p)
