Voltage rating on TRIACs

I'm pretty new to them and been searching around for an answer.

Does the voltage rating mean the tolerance of it?

I have to replace a part from a schematic that has a 200V 40A full-wave TRIAC on it and I can't find a place to buy one like that. Will a 300-400V 40A work?

Yes, if it will fit. The voltage rating refers to the maximum voltage that can be applied to it and still operate within it's other specifications.
