I am going to college this year and was advised to get a voice recorder for class. Does anyone have any suggestions for one or should i not even bother with getting one? I have already checked with the school i am going to and was told that i was able to use voice recorders or whatever. thanks.

They're very useful! That's how I survived Intro to Sociology, the lecturer was so boring I fell asleep. But I forced myself to listen to the lecture to take more notes. What you do is record, and PAY attention. Don't take notes. After the lecture, play it again (another time... I was always too fidgety right after a lecture) and take notes. It'll be fresh in memory if you don't leave it for too long!
