Voice power on switch?

Does any one have an idea how I would be able to power on my computer by voice? Ex: saying "Power on". What kind of hardware would I need etc?
 
The easiest way would be to buy some sort of plugin jack (like this) into which you plug your computer.
 
That switch might not be useful with a computer pulling several hundred watts. The Appliance model might be a better choice.

I always wonder what those light duty devices will do to a switching power supply. If they use an SCR or something like that and end up outputting hall-wave rectified power, will a switching power supply still operate correctly?
 
I'm talking about something to the power on signal of the motherboard, which shouldn't be too bad on volts should it
 
The relay wont take much juice to run. Get some batteries and run them in series to get the voltage needed.
 
Keep in mind that type of thing is activated by any sound within the vocal frequency range, not just voice. It certainly does not understand phrases. You may also have to include some type of filter or other circuit to keep it from accidentally switching the pc off, perhaps triggered even from sounds from your speakers once the pc starts.
 
Just don't spank it to dirty web sites, your computer may flash on and off repeatedly with the clapper
 
Thats all very well, but how does it get the 12v from the power supply if the switch is being used to turn the PC on.

The power supply is turned off and on by a switch on the back of the PSU. The computer is powered up by the switch on the front of the case. Power is always available to the switch on the front. Check the ATX standard and you'll find which wires in the power supply are always live and which ones go live when the front power switch is turned on.
 
The +12V line is not one of the always-ons. If it was, drives would spin 24/7.

Use an external PSU, or step up the +5VSB line to 12v. Christ, that relay only uses ~35ma when active and 10ma when inactive, it's not a problem at all.
