Voice manipulation software?

what program would somebody use if they wanted to manipulate their voice, like record you saying and then go as far as making it sound like a female or vice versa? also something that would do it in real time so if you are talking on the phone and want to change your voice?

I know of nothing that does it real time.

My friend once had some music software which could 'change the gender' of the person talking. It was designed for a sequencer. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of it. It was a free VST programme - I would do a google of VST + vocal + change (+ gender?). Pretty sure there would be a good few suitable programmes
