vmware asking for new key

I installed windows 7 via bootcamp on my macbook pro, and then installed vmware fusion 3...which reads off of the bootcamp partition. I activated windows when running it natively, but when running bootcamp it asks me for a new key...why??
 
not sure I follow? VMware fusion is able to mount the NTFS volume and run it as a VM? or you did a P2V from your bootcamp partition to a new VM? if you did a P2V did it sysprep the VM or something? you basically just changed all the hardware by the sounds of it, so MS will ask you to reactivate windows.

reading the thread title again I"m even more confused, is windows asking you for your product key or VMware fusion?

yep - you can boot the bootcamp partition in fusion :)
