I practiced vmodding on a 56k modem. Been 3 for 3 on real life stuff. Well one came loose, nothing has fried. Radioshack has a cheap 15w/30w (dual mode) soldering iron and get their pointiest tip to go with it, tinner/cleaner that comes in a little circular tin, solder of course - the thin rolled, and some thin wire (screw the stranded kind). Almost forgot, a multimeter of course! One of a hardware torturer's most important tools! 
Then you are going to have to order potientiometers. I got mine from mouser. You end up skimming articles like the above after a short while because they are all pretty much the same. Altering what a voltage sense pin thinks is going on. Once you know what the voltage chippies look like you can even look around for them, pop the little part number in to google and find the sense pin and the manufacturers pdf Many mods are discovered as such.
Too bad the bug didn't stuck with me a little bit better/longer. Nowadays I have just too much damn money in the thing. Would be cool if it was just old hat to me and my GTX was kicking and screaming, had a done more modding in the past. Hmm... the NF7S is decked out, but the Ti4200 with p4 sink may be calling me! I got water and shit, so volting a bit would really get the GTX going. I wouldn't do it to a stock or silencer'd one even.
