VM Smp Servers?

Are the servers down. I havent gotten a WU in a couple of hours.The log says no appropriate server available.
 
It doesnt give a server.

[12:01:42] + Attempting to get work packet
[12:01:42] - Connecting to assignment server
[12:01:42] + No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
[12:01:42] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[12:01:42] - Attempt #21 to get work failed, and no other work to do.

That is what the logs says and I am not using the smp. I am using Notfreds smp.
 
Are you trying to get a -bigadv WU downloaded? If not, then I suggest trying the Windows SMP client and see if that connects.
 
I have one vm client running on a dual core and it had trouble most of the day yesterday so it isn't a problem at your end. It has been crunching away for a while now since pulling down a new WU last night.
 
I had the same problem and it was the client. When you intially setup the client, go into advanced settings and the last setting for binding a specific IP to the client. It is WRONG by default and you must bind it to your nics IP not the VMware IP. Let me know if you need more info and I will PM the instructions.

I am finally crunching a bigadv with this change. I unfortuneately do nto know how to reconfigure a client oonce it is setup in VMware.
 
I just checked my SMP clients and no issues. Might have been timing. Most of mine picked up new clients in the early am.

I have never needed to change that setting in a VM or otherwise.
 
Ok I think it has something to do with the vmware players trying to connect to the internet. I dont even get a server name or ip when trying to connect. The smp6 will get work units but not the vm versions. Is there something special to the setup for windows 7. I was on XP and since I wasnt gettin a WU at that time I figured I would upgrade and then still not connecting. Any help would be appreciated.

Could you please provide a link to back this up because your information is contrary to common knowledge and practice in this forum and elsewhere. I don't know anyone who has to modify those settings in the advanced config. :confused:

This is a VMware client IP issue. Heres what you have todo. 1. Goto the command prompt in windows and type ipconfig /all. You will see alot of information listed about your network. Look for IPv4 address. This should be in the first in the first block of information listed. You will also see some settings for the VMware network adapter. The IP address for your network adapter will probably be different form the VMware adapter and thats where my problem was. This is why you need to bind your IPv4 address to the client. I deleted my current virtual machine from the list and unzipped a new VMware client and went thru the setup again since I could not figureout how to restart the client config process in VMware. Do not forget to change the VMware client setting to NAT, it is set as bridged by default. Make sure and go into advanced settings when you are in the setup, select yes for advmethods and the very last setting is to bind an IP to the client. Make sure and use the IP for your nic and NOT the VMware client IP.

Apollo, I dont have a link to post. How do you reconfigure a VMware client once you have setup it up initially?

I don't reconfigure my VMware clients. If it doesn't work right away, I will just delete and reinstall the image or distro. Honestly, not since my Linux experimentation days two years ago did I need to do this, and even then it was because I had tried tons of different distros where some were easier to run while others might have required minimal configuring.

If you install the EVGA image for example, I don't see a need to reconfigure settings since it seems to work for most people right out of the box, so to speak. If there is a need to mess with it, then to me that appears like an external issue such as a hardware firewall that might be causing problems. I'm far from a network expert, but it stands to reason that something else might be interfering if the majority have their VMs working right away and without a manual configuration.
 
Ok I think I got it working. As of right now they are seeing the servers. They have pulled a WU and all I had to do was cuss at it and threaten it. So hopefully it will keep getting WU but I will check it in a couple of days to make sure. Also does anyone have a link or diagram of setting up a dummy plug I need to make one for my second video card. Thanks for all your help guys.
