VM location - local or NAS?

Hi All

Where's best to store the VM files for ESXi 4 - the local disk of the ESXi machine or the NAS?

My ESXi 4 would be a single 400Gb SATA drive.

My NAS is a 4x250Gb RAID10 Openfiler setup on a seperate physical box (connected to the ESXi server via a dedicated 1Gb connection).

My NAS also stores music, films, etc.

At the moment the VM's are stored locally but things have been getting slower lately in terms of performance, so wondered if I would benefit from moving them to the NAS (not move as such, but start from scratch and put them on the NAS if beneficial).

Local disk. OF has some issues right now (hope they fix in the next revision).
 
If you want to go with a Linux distro and install ietd yourself the latest version runs very well. I'm running 4x250GB drives in RAID 10 and my VMs are stored on the array via iSCSI. They're able to read at 90MB/s and write at 50MB/s.
