While re-setting up my FileServer from a hard drive crash, i noticed that my CPU client was down 50% from its normal PPD levels. I had set the CPU to idle and the GPU to low.
Changing these both to "low" got the PPD back where it should be.

Since I will be replacing my C2D E6420 with an X3350 in a few days, I need to figure out a way to the get VM, CPU, & GPU clients all running at the same level.

With my recent bad luck with the many affinity managers currently out, i did a little digging into setting the a VM's cpu priority.

I found this site, detailing how to change the priority level of the VM's on a global level.
http://sanbarrow.com/vmx/vmx-config-ini.html

config.ini - settings -- VMX-file parameters

The file configs.ini or config (in Linux) sets parameters for all users or if you prefer - it sets parameters for the host.

Tip for Windows-user: this file can be found in
C:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Workstation
If you can't see it - fix your explorer settings to display hidden files

priority.grabbed = "high"
priority.grabbed = "normal"

priority.ungrabbed = "normal"
priority.ungrabbed = "low"
priority.ungrabbed = "idle"

A second site I found, that references that the .vmx file that control each VM can override the global setting if setup to do so.
It seems as if i can set this globally for all created VM or on a case by case bases, which ever my needs require.
http://vmetc.com/2008/04/18/create-guest-priorities-on-vmware-server/

I need to play with this some more to figure it out completely, but it does seem I can configure the VM to run at the same level as the other clients on the system and give them all equal access to the CPU.

I don't know if anyone has tried this or not, but if you have , any help would be welcomed.

Yeah, I saw that app. Will try that if I can't get this to work.

Just exploring new ways to do things ...

Try that : http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5564

It's very very granular as far as control of priorities and affinities is set. I use it on all my boxes and it works perfectly, knowing that I use VMWare on 4 of 5 boxes.

+1 for the Configurable Affinity Changer. I used it when I was doing VMs and it worked well. I've since gone to WCG & F@H GPU2 client so no longer use it.
