I have this dilemma right now. I have been running visual studios on my desktop and on my laptop for about 2 years now. I keep changing settings or adding new add ons to one or the other then having to copy the settings over to the other computer. This has gotten very annoying and i am trying to come up with a solution. Here is what i have thought of doing so far. I was thinking about only installing visual studios on my laptop so that i still have the portability to program where ever i go, but then while im at home just remote desktop into my laptop, or something of that nature. I was thinking about doing a kvm switch so i can just directly link up to my laptop but i have a dual monitor set up and my laptop only has one vga port. Im not sure of the performance issues trying to remote into my laptop would be, but i would expect it to not be that much of a problem. Do you guys have any other ideas?

Does your laptop have a docking port on the bottom or back? If so, then look at docking stations for your laptop vendor. With that, you could do a dual monitor setup at home (laptop screen and another monitor) and use a full-size mouse and keyboard. You could take this approach without a dock, but the simple snap-in ease for connectivity or some extra ports on the dock might be worth the extra expense.

Oh sorry i ment two desktop monitors not including my laptop. My laptop can be closed for all i care.

You can remote desktop with the multimon option. It should be plenty fast, especially over LAN

Do you think it will be fast enough for programing 3d graphics and real time systems such as a game. More spacificaly xna

Programming in VIsual Studio should be fine. YMMV with testing/running the game, though; gaming over RDP or VNC does not seem practical to me.
