i just got my ATi 9800 pro installed today along with the latest driver. the computer started with no problem, everything seemed right until i tried to play games like need for speed undergound 2 (later i noticed the problem exist in all 3d games) it gives me visual artefacts (see pic below) even though the game is still playable.

anyone know what the problem is?

if nothing can solove the problem, i guess i am just gonna take the card to the ATI Headquarters located a few blocks away in Markham and get it fixed or perhaps replace it

has anyone acutally done this before, do i need to bring anything else except the card (the card has a sticke on its back)

Did you try older drivers too ? Ive seen those in my video card but some drivers did it in a couple of games. About the warranty I guess you should take the video card, with all its accessories and an invoice.

bad memory module, one of ur ram sticks is blown, my friend had that trouble

Those artifacts are very reminiscent of a gpu core over heating and/or being overclocked too far.

If you haven't overclocked, then you may want to check your heatsink on the card. Maybe the fan has died and is no longer spinning. Maybe the heatsink isn't making proper contact anymore, in which case; you'll have to remove it, clean off whatever gunk is on it, then re-apply it with some fresh thermal paste.

Those artifacts don't look like memory errors.

Agreed ^^^
Memory errors usually get shutdowns. That is a core damage problem.

I agree that it looks like GPU. You said there's an ATI HQ just a few blocks away, so, why not just go ahead and pop on in there with it and let them have a look. Probably the heatsink isn't on quite right or something. And you SHOULD only need the card, but, hey, it's not too hard to bring everything along, right? I'd imagine if they needed anything besides the card itself it would just be some kind of proof of purchase though.

I had the same problem with my 9800. The dots are core (needs more volts and or better cooling). The triangles, is the memory clocked to high. If they were black triangles it would be the memory failing and time for RMA. If this is happening at default clock speeds the card is on its last days. One more thing make sure your AGP is set to at least 1.6v if you can.
