vista x64 media center crashes on setup

i used vmc with the last build of my pc, and it worked fine. i've since upgraded, pretty much everything, and reinstalled vista. now, after running this installation, i am not able to start vmc. there's a quick flash about a cable receiver, and then an error message (sorry don't have it), and then it freezes up. i was not able to quit vmc w/ task mgr and ultimately had to reboot computer. i have no idea why this is happening, the only thing from my cable box that is connected is audio, and it was that way before when it worked fine.

any ideas?
