Vista wireless issue - no adapter detected

Sorry for the duplicate thread, but I wasn't too sure to which of the forums this was most applicable:

I've just upgraded to Vista Home Premium as recommended by a friend (decided to take the opportunity to get a clean install rather than an upgrade).

This friend uses the same PCI wireless adapter card as me, a BT Voyager 1040. I'm informed that he'd no trouble getting it up and running, which is why I need a bit of help - installing it won't work. Vista won't recognise the new hardware, or even let me run the damn disk; I get some error about not being able to access setup.exe. I got around this by going the old right click>explore route, but even when "installed" I go to continue setup and i'm told there's no wireless hardware detected.

Any advice from those with more than fifteen minutes' Vista use?
Ta.

Have you gone to the manufacturer's website for the latest drivers?

Yep, no joy, unfortunately.

EDIT: for a bit of additional detail, the PC the router's connected to is running XP Home, and it's not WEP-encrypted.
Vista's not too hot on the whole running things business as far as i've seen. This is a bit daft :(

That's funny. Most people that think they know something about Vista have never even touched it ;)

But anyways... Vista can't even see it? Thats the first problem. Before you even worry about drivers- Vista has to see it.
Is it seated correctly? Can you see it in device manager?

What I would do is delete it out of device manager (if its listed), and reboot. Vista should see it again. Then install these drivers:

I'll give that a go, cheers. I was wondering if it was a problem with my motherboard's ethernet/networking drivers, too: the disk I use to install everything, from nVidia firewall to AC97 (it's a gigabyte K8NF-9) keeps making Vista spack out and refuse to run it. I managed to get AC97 working the explore route, but i'm wondering if the reason i'm having these problems is because the ethernet and all the rest of it's not installed right.

EDIT: in fact, is there a single DVD on the planet that won't cause vista to give some sort of error issue and require you to install manually?

I haven't had a single problem with Vista so far.
The only problem I have had is LACK of drivers- for a printer.

But I don't think your onboard NIC would be causing your wireless card to be screwing up.
