Vista is actually really really nice to use. Once the price of memory comes down it'll be a perfect OS. :D

Check the hot deals forums - I've been seeing some good deals on DDR2 the last few days!

This is the second poll I've come across in this forum so I'll provide the same answer:

If you read many of the MS memos most people will be surprised that there is no plan for a SP-1. Frankly I don’t see the need either.

Vista is rock solid; so solid I’ve been shocked. As has been pointed out a SP will do nothing to cure the driver issue and that is whom you should be bitching to.

Start with Creative and work your way down the list you will find damn few companies who care enough about you the consumer to fix their own problems.

On the other hand there are those companies who to care. I have had my PVR-150 TV Tuner for years now and never dreamed they would support that old version on Vista.
WRONG, a complete driver set with full instructions is right on their site. It works like a champ as always.

As for speed over XP, everyone thought Vista was just XP with a pretty face and that is obviously not the case. Most of my machines are dual core and in every case Vista is starts faster, opens programs faster and runs them faster.

Let me add, Vista is configurable as hell, all you have to do is read a little. Putting it on a mis-configured machine is again, not MS’s fault but the fault of the end user.

This is the best first release of an OS Microsoft has ever had and I have them all.

I installed vista for the first time and kept it on my computer for only 3 days because it was annoying me to much ( this was in beta ) and then about a month or so ago i installed it again. I was getting use to it and kinda liked the feel of it better then XP and one night last weekend i decided to install XP and by the following morning i hated XP because i had got use to the way vista looked and felt ( like going through folders ). Did a new install of vista amd dont think i will be going back to XP. Even if there is problems with vista or not im just use to it now and wont use XP ;)

I never much cared for XP, so it's sorta easy to say I like Vista better.

In fact, over the past couple days I've been playing with Vista, I've grown fond of this OS. For desktop usage, it's great. I don't game much, so I'm not effected by those bugs.

Dude, how dare you blame the lack of driver support on the Creative and Nvidia's of the world. After all its MS's fault for changing Vista SO much that the hardware companies can't develop working drivers. Lord knows they didn't have nearly enough development time before Vista hit the shelves. In fact the next time I get a BSOD in Vista I'm calling MS for support. Why should I burden Creative or Nvidia for their crappy drivers.

I hope you're kidding. As I stated in a different thread, the blame for the problems with the drivers is on the companies who write the drivers. The reason for this is that the drivers that don't work aren't working because they're using too many system-level and kernel-level hooks, which is a big no-no and should have gone the way of the dodo back when 98 support was dropped. One could argue that MS should have enforced the newer model for driver development sooner (and I'd agree), but ultimately the 3rd party companies had years to redevelop their drivers and instead they sat on their thumbs.

If anything, this is a lesson in the 7 P's: Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss-Poor Performance.

I like XP but prefer Vista atm. I had myriad reoccuring problems with xp, and putting vista in cured them plus it's booting and running faster than it was before.
I did a clean install so had to redo alot of my games and some of the hardware drivers, but haven't had any noticeable defects so far with anything.
I got WoW to run from the files, (Shortcut won't work on desktop but will in the game folder) but will most likely reinstall later on tho.
All in all, i do like this OS so far. Time will tell...

I really really hope this was sarcastic, because if it wasn't, wow.

Of course, him being a noobie he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

Wasn't the purpose of the new driver model to prevent driver problems from bringing down the OS? It sure worked much better than that unstable Windows XP, here on opposite of opposite day.
