Vista screen "scramble" with 1600XT?

Has anyone else seen this?

I built a new machine for Windows Vista, and the video card is the Sapphire Radeon 1600XT.

For the most part, it works great, save for one thing: Sometimes, and I can't figure out what event if any is triggering this, the screen will "scramble". Basically, the programs will still run, but you can't interact with the desktop, and the bottom of the screen looks like this:

Clicking the Start Button will bring up the menu but it's blank, and mousing over icons will highlight them but you can't interact with them. "Scrambled" is the best description I have for it.

Logging out and then logging back in fixes it, as does restarting the system outright.

I am unsure if this is related to Aero Glass; I've switched to the Windows Vista Basic theme and will observe going forward.

So, has anyone seen this, or have any idea what the problem may be? Thanks!

I've seen the problem as well. It's some sort of really messed up texturing. For whatever reason something is getting corrupted and Aero has to be reset. I'm fairly sure it's Aero specific although I haven't tested otherwise. It seems to happen randomly and I've seen it a few times but not in the past couple weeks. It's probably a Vista issue that needs to be worked out but who knows.

I'm using a 1900XT and the 7.2 drivers.

I have exactly the same problem. Here are my system specs: 8 core Xeon (dual quad core), 8 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 RAM, XFX NVidia 7950GT Graphics, six 500 GB SATA II drives in a RAID 10/JBOD config, SuperMicro X7DAE+ MB, Supermicro case with two 800W PS's, Vista Ultimate.

This problem is really making me mad. I am able to manage these random scrambles by killing explorer.exe with task manger then restarting it by using the "Run" command from task manager. It seems to do it every time the computer is resting after a while but it also does it while I am working on stuff. I have yet to find a situation that prompts this problem.

Since the person in the above post has a different card, we can rule out the graphics aspect. Since I pretty much have overkill on this system with RAM, processors, and cooling with my SuperMicro case, I don't think it is hardware related.

Please contact me if you have heard of other people with this problem and/or a fix! I will do the same.
