I've an app I'm trying to install that requires MDAC, however it doesn't recognize the version included with Vista.

Does anyone know a way I can A) force the installer to run despite Installshield looking for MDAC, or B) get MDAC 2.8 to work on RC2? (x86 not x64 if it matters...)

Thanks in advance.

Vista already included the needed files as http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vbrun/ms788708.aspx

About the installation issues, It may be a matter of the installer script detecting the OS version since normally, if it detect XP, it won't install but a bug will prevent from detecting newer OSes. This is from the InstallShield forums at http://community.installshield.com/showthread.php?t=157803.

What is the software you are trying to install ? Asking your question, the best bet is to find how to force the installer to run on Vista despite the MDAC error (ie, skip it..).

Another place to start would be http://msmvps.com/blogs/installsite/default.aspx as well since it was talking a lot about IS issues and Vista.

Thanks bro. Unfortunatly nothing that really gets me where I need to go. Google gave me the same pages when I searched. I even tried installing to an XP partition and copying it over. Still no dice.

Vista is pretty, but there are still a couple of apps and utilities that I need to work that don't. (Even using compatability mode.) I really was hoping to be able to run it full time.

Gee, imagine pre-release software still has issues. :p

Guess I'll put linux back on this partition...
