VISTA Problems instores

Just a little FYI, On laptops purchased from big box stores, Vista is taking up to an HOUR to boot on the first shot. After this, it boots normally depending on the system it's on, but DAMN.
I am with a '24 hour tech support' service, and lemme warn you, if you turn off the system during this procedure, it will OWN the install, and the system must be restored.
It occurs with any version on any system. Some Desktops have had this issue as well.

Dude, an hour with a C2D 7200, 2Gigs of ram and an Nvidia chipset?
There's no reason for that.

That's an average. Some took longer (the Celerons and whatever a "Pentium Dual-Core Processor" is) while other took less (higher end core2duos and TurionX2's.

Are these machines that had Vista installed after they were delivered? If so its just because the install hasn't finished yet. I'm willing to bet that when people get to the point of the install where you choose network settings that its finished, no you still have a good 20-30 minutes.

well i remeber when i ran an early version of vista before rc1 the thing that tests your hardware had to be ran at firstboot and it took forever.. on my normal copy now i cant remeber it doing that when it installed but i went to control panel and it had my rating. so maybe its doing ti and doesnt tell you cause most people are too stupid to know what or why its doing it.

Nope, these are fresh -outa the box systems. Vista pre-installed.

I seem to remember when I was beta testing RC1 that there was a point during the install or first boot that I thought my computer froze up: Black screen, that lasted for was seamed an eternity. I remember taking off my side panel to touch my harddrives to see if they were doing anything at all... they were doing something... I left it alone for a while, and it was fine.

I could immagine a computer illiterate person thinking that something was wrong and freaking out. (heck I started to.)
