Hey I am not sure if this is the correct location to post this. I am having an issue with Vista. I have the basic version of it.

Now the problem is I can not get my headset to work. It seems that when it was plugged in, it was recognized but does not show up anywhere and does not work at all. I would really like to use this with speakers active (manually turned off when I have the headset on) like I did with XP.

I use the headset/mic when using vent.

Any advice/assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I think they are up to date. Will try to do so again. Also the problem is that no microphone is listed under the sound options. Almost like it doesn't exist.
 
i remember mine being funky too. i had to go into sound/recording options (i think thats the name) and enable it for some reason.
 
hmmm any idea where or what I need to do under the sound options on the control panel to enable the mic/headset for playback? Not even showing anything there still.

I just found something for recording/speech recognition for the mic and that picked up but still no play back at all. Can't hear a thing in the headset.

Really hate vista. lol
 
I cant tell you right now, as sadly i am using xp. i cantry when i get home though

you could always upgrade to 7 ;)
 
I bought this thing in August. I thought I was entitled to the free upgrade to Win 7 but I guess not.

I might go that rout if I can't get this thing working. Although I would hate having to dish out more money to feed Microsoft. lol

I'll keep my eyes on this to see what you find.

non usb so guess they are the 3.5 mm jacks. One for mic and the other for headphones. They are connected to the front jacks of the comp while my speakers are in the back.

The headset is...don't remember the name of it and it's not listed on it. Has a CA on the side of the ear pieces with an HS-600 marking on the mic itself.

edit: think it is a creative headset. Picked it up I think at Target a while back.

so in Control Panel -> Sound and Audio Devices -> Voice tab
what's "Default device:" set to under "Voice Recording"?
 
Strangely enough, when I went into control panel, there is no option for sound audio devices. Now I did see hardware and sound. When I select that there is no voice tab at all. Not sure where I can look for sound audio devices much less the voice tab. :/

You're on Vista.

so I never really used Vista, and don't have a Win7 machine handy, so going by some screen shots here.

it looks like under Audio Devices, there should be an "Audio Input (recording) Devices" section.

Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Audio Devices and Sound Themes

My devices are also running through realtech HD audio manager. I just selected under advanced selections, mute rear device when front is plugged in. Rear meaning my main speakers and front my headset. Now my headset is playing back with the audio test. What I would like though, is to have them both run at the same time. I selected the option that says: make front and back output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously.

This is what I had selected before. When this is selected, my speakers work fine but the headset does not play anything at all back.

Hope that helps....Just like with XP being able to have both going at the same time. This was a convenience seeing how all I had to do was grab my headset when needed and didn't have to alter the settings any. Was hoping this is also possible with vista.
 
Appreciate the help. Still nothing on mine that says audio devices and sound themes. I have to wonder if this option is not here due to my version of Vista being the cheapest one. (cheapo computer) I may end up grabbing a copy of Win 7 and hope for the best with it.

In the meantime, at least I found a work around. Now I just need to see if I can use vent correctly with said work around.
