Vista + Nvidia = Not going to work?

I just moved to windows vista, hooned over to the nVidia website, installed the drivers, rebooted and was still met with this but ugly and laggy interface, I then checked the device manager and realised that the drivers installed but they dont work, I get the following error:

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

I have installed both the 97.46 and 100.64 drivers for vista and I get the same issue with both, I dont use sli or any other videocards, does anyone have any idea whats happening and how I can fix it?

I have a Gigabyte GeForce 7600GS 256MB Card
 
Was this an upgrade installation or a clean installation?

If it was a clean installation you should have got Aero enabled with the default drivers included with Vista. If you did a clean installation and Aero didn't work out of the box there is probably some other problem.

An upgrade installation could have any number of problems.
 
It was a clean install and there were no drivers pre installed.

That's 100.65. :p 100.64 is for the 6/7/8 series.

dewy: Vista comes with drivers built in for the 7xxx series. My 7600GT has Aero acceleration right after installation. Gigabyte might have changed the device ID in the BIOS, which is usually what causes your kind of problem loading drivers. Or it could be that your motherboard chipset wasn't properly detected. Check device manager and update motherboard drivers if necessary.

It is also for 6 and 7 series cards according to their website, and I tried it after the driver that should have worked failed.
