ok, so I have a laptop with vista home premium and it is connected to a wireless network. I have a desktop with no wireless card, so I was going to hook a ethernet cable from the laptop to the desktop and share the wireless. the desktop has xp. Now, when i do so, the desktop says limited/no connectivity. the laptop network settings say it is set to local, not local and internet, while the wireless network is. is there a way to change this? it seemed like its very user friendly, but its almost like they dont want you to set it up that way. I was under the impression vista would auto set most networking stuff, was I wrong? any help appreciated.

When connecting like devices you need to use a cross-over ethernet cable.

that isnt entirely true. Ive done it before with two xp computers, but the networking settings were a lot easier to manipulate.

Is there something preventing you from buying and installing a NIC on your XP machine? That'll certainly be the easiest option to go with without any hassle.
