I'm aware vista caches allot into memory but does vista clear any of this when using memory intensive applications like games or does this info just remain in memory wasting space?

Vista does make use of available memory more heavily than XP, but it does release the memory once the app that was using it is closed.

The OS will keep pages in memory after they've been freed until another application wants them, in case they're needed again. However, it will certainly yield that space to other applications when they ask for it. Free RAM is wasted RAM if it could be used for cache, though.

Thanks, I agree it is a waste not using the ram for something but as long it does free it up when an application needs the memory then thats great.

It would however be a huge waste if it continued to hold the cached memory at the expensive of an application your actually running.
