Vista Internet Problem

This problem only occurs in Vista, not XP. I'll be using the internet fine for several hours, then out of nowhere it'll say "Unable to connect" when I try to browse the web in firefox. Says "site not found" in Internet explorer. AIM instant messager continues to work perfectly while this is happening. I have my laptop connected to the second ethernet port with a crossover cable to share internet, and that works fine with browsing the web when the desktop is having this problem. Upon rebooting, it works fine again for several hours then does it again. Any idea how I can fix this?

check to disable tcp offload some people say on the net
that is when you cant connect to some website but can still ping ip adress.
for me it was another options, disabling "interrupt moderation" on my nforce 4 nic.
though my problem is a bit different, i could connnect to google.com but not microsoft.com

Connection doesn't work connected directly.
Connection does work connected through another computer.

It seems like the connection is the problem... Bad port? Are they both connected through the same thing?

Try removing all the temporary files, and reparing the connection (flushes things out).
 
my dsl connection didnt work "well" directly too.. worked well behind a router
 
I'm having problems as well.

My internet ( adsl 1 mb download / 384 upload ) keeps dropping AFTER like 3 or so hours of using it.

The symptoms are, warcraft 3 cannot join games but looks as if im still connected to battlenet (weird); websites all say connection lost; torrent sometimes works through all this, but other times it also has no internet activity.

I'm using a Netgear RP614v1 router :x

Os: vista 64 bit ultimate.


my computer specs are very good just bought this pc last year.

Anyone have any recommendations what to do ?
 
I have also had this issue and the only way I could fix it was a reboot.

I'm still having this problem. My motherboard has two onboard gigabit ethernet ports, and both ports suffer from this problem. It doesn't do this at all when I boot into Windows XP. Websites don't work, but torrents and AIM instant messenger work fine.
 
The problem went away when I changed my network type to private from public. Good luck!
 
It is set to Public already. I give up, fuck you Vista, I'm formatting and going back to XP.
 
i usually keep the local temperature gadget up and when it says not connected after awhile then i know i got dropped again. But in my case, i'll usually click on the IE icon in my fast start and it will usually come back up. If not, (which is rare) then i'll reboot. Works for me at least.
I use spyware doctor, and while i'm not having any problems with it, are there any i should know about?
