Ok I just put together a new build. Everything was working fine when I logged into windows xp and backed up my drives so that I can do a clean install of Vista 64.

When I boot from the vista dvd it takes 5 minutes to get to the first screen, where it asks language, etc. Then each step proceeds very slow, like I'll put in my key and wait 3 minutes for the next screen.

These are what I've tried so far:

Changing RAM sticks
Trying a IDE DVD drive
Dual channel ram vs single stick
32bit vista dvd (from ms) vs. 64 bit vista dvd (a copy from a friend)

It goes extremely slowly each time, so slow I get worried it's hanged until the next screen pops.

I'm not sure what to do...leave it and spend the day installing (maybe overnight too lol) or is this indicative of an underlying problem?

Hmm.. sounds normal for Vista? Beginning from installation and ending to uninstallation. :D
