Vista - Graphical corruption in the volume mixer window

Take a look at the following three pictures, you'll see what I mean by graphical corruption:

This is happening in 64-bit Vista Ultimate. It's happened across three or four installs.

Any idea why?

There is a known problem with graphical corruption in the mixer (though this describes it as a "black background", not updating the background would seem to be related:

Unfortunately there's no fix there.

I only get this issue when Ultramon is loaded. Try ending the process in task manager, then check the Vol Mixer panel.
