So after laying low for a few months, I'm back. Fire up the 260gtx (190.38 video drivers) and let it run. Impressed seeing 59xxWU's @ 1888 points each - YAHOO!

Let it run overnight and find a message balloon "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered" and apparently the WU failed at about 80%. Not always at same percentage, erratic as to what/where when.

Erratic in nature, and nothing revealing to be noted. Constant temps (70-74), on a UPS so power issues unlikely, runs other apps without problems(heavin gaming=no faults). The only constant is GPU folding+190.38 driver on THIS pc are not happy. 183,185 drivers never had this problems so questioning reverting to older drivers. IF gpu folding, video display crash will happen sometime. But video crash has NOT occurred when NOT folding.

Anyone else having problems or is it just this PC and I'm to stubborn to believe it?

Looking up nvlddmkm errors is not a clean cut answer.


Vista 32, 260gtx, no OC'ing.:confused:

I think rolling back to an older driver version would be a good idea to test.
 
I had massive issued with the 190.38 locking my system in a continuous display reboot loop while i was away this weekend, killing my two main cards. I've rolled back to 186.24 right now, and all is well again.
 
I have had this same problem also. I have a GTX260 running on 64 bit vista. It had been running great with the 182.xx drivers. I had missed a few driver releases and then grabbed a new version. Random display driver crash and then recovery as the OP mentioned. I switched the card to stock speeds down clocked the Q6600 turned up the fans. Nothing helped. I did notice that it only happened when folding, not while gaming or doing other things. I did revert back to the 182.xx drivers and I didn't have any problems for a while. Then those new 190.xx came out and I tried again. The display driver went right back to crashing about once every 24 hours only while folding. It is such a pain in the ass. I will probably roll back to the 182.xx or try those 186.24 if someone could put up a link.....

Is this a problem with the driver or with the folding client?
 
I had problems exactly like this on my 8400GS, but only when using CUDA. I don't do F@H but rather BOINC projects. Right now I'm running stock drivers so my CUDA does not show up. SETI, GPU Grid, AQUA@Home...all of them seemed to crash and eventually became BSOD's. When I GOOGLEd the problem, it seems that it happened to a lot of people and new drivers didn't really cure anyone's problems. Hopefully you guys have better luck, but it seems to happen to XP users as well. I just gave up using the CUDA and assumed it had to do with the older card even though CUDA was brought out in the 7 series of cards.

At first a lot of them thought it was a conflict with the video drivers and an audio codec, but mine and many others happened regardless to audio.
 
FYI: Changing power setting has rendered more stable results so far. time will tell.


 
I tried changing the power settings to maximum performance and disabling PhysX. The display driver crashed again. Looks like I'm rolling back to the 182.xx drivers....
 
Just realized my laptop was still running 179s. Downloading the 186.24s now.
