So, i just switched from XP to Vista Ultimate, what are your guys favorite gadgets?

I strip some of those default ones, being a minimalist. I changed the clock to a cooler looking one....

I leave the calendar, sometimes it's helpful to see data and days of the month right there.

On the laptop, I run with 4...the above 2....and the following 2 networking utilities...
Wireless NIC info

And the regular network monitor

With my laptops..going to clients sites, this makes for easy network info..instead of going to IPConfig or network status. Info right up there on top.

I remove the CPU/RAM utilization...really not useful to me...nor are other system status ones. Prefer lean and mean.

I use the built-in calendar and weather gadgets, along with a DriveInfo one downloaded from the Gadget's website.

I guess I run mine with a lot compared to you guys, I run a non-default clock, uptime, cpu/ram info to watch my quad, network meter, weather, a widget to show me all my upcoming tv shows, two countdowns and when I need, a package tracker.

What's the name and link of that package tracker? I can see that as being a very useful gadget!

I just got Vista working on my new rig yesterday. I have the notepad, the calendar, the CPU/RAM monitor which shows all 4 cores of my quad, a weather monitor and then a nifty little system control gadget that lets me shut down, restart, log off, switch user, open task manager and some other things.

I use the default calender, weather, and currency gadgets. It annoys me that the weather gadget doesn't display the full info while in the sidebar. I have to leave it floating. :/

That's why I like the proweather gadget. Just click the current weather and it will show you a 10 day forecast with plenty of data including current radar images.

I actually turn the sidebar off. It's so rare that I actually see my desktop, what's the point in tying up resources for it?

I use:

- msn weather gadget

- cpu gadget

- news gadget

- clock gadget

- slideshow gadget

Most of Vista's gadgets are pretty useless to me except for the cpu and weather gadget. If you want gadgets that are more useful then it might be worth it using Yahoo Widgets. They have a much larger variety of useful gadgets plus most of them are resizeable.

I wish there were a task-list sidebar that is customizable and interfaces with the calendar.
I'd pay good money for a task list sidebar app that has all the stuff I'd want in it, and I can't imagine that I am the only one who has a need like that.

Default clock, calendar and weather gadget. I've also removed the recycle bin from the desktop and use the recycle bin gadget instead. This means my desktop is completely free of icons, which is just how I like it :)

thanks for all the input, i finally got all my software installed and it is running very smooth. It's very nice gaming on DX10 i must say :D
I am going to look into which ones i want tonight when i get home

I turn off the side bar and float the gadgets all over my desktop. Most along the bottom of the screen.

Most of my windows are sized to clear the bottom area where they live.

I find most of the first party and third party gadgets to look like ass. Not something I would want to have on my desktop constantly. Microsoft really needs to hire some better designers. For a while I was using Yahoo Widgets because they looked a lot better but I decided to go back to the built in gadgets. Yahoo Widgets and Apple Widgets look so much better.
