ahh, so all you can really do is install and reformat from it? no multiple installations? It's cheap because it's a System Builder version (OEM). You can only use this on a single machine. If you throw the machine away and buy a new one, you're supposed to go buy a new copy of Vista (OEM or Retail).
Nothing is stopping you from activating it on more than one machine, your just not supposed to. My old XP OEM disc I reused on several ground up builds, I never had to buy another copy. I never had it activated on more than one machine at time though since I always sold my old parts to help pay for the new system.ahh, so all you can really do is install and reformat from it? no multiple installations?
Another thing with OEM software is microsoft does not provide phone support on it like they do with Retail or Upgrade versions. They expect the system builder to provide the support.
Yes, what Chris said. You're not supposed to use that copy on another machine if your current one quits, but people do anyways. You'd just have to call Microsoft for reactivation instead of using the online activation. 99.9% of the time they'll give you a new activation code without question.
You're just not supposed to according to their EULA, that's all.
Keep in mind, both retail and OEM versions only permit you to install on one machine at a time. There's no way around that. You activate one machine, the other's going to deactivate.
