Vista Errors Since Installing SSD?

Hi all,

I recently installed a SSD for a friend (OCZ Vertex 4 128GB) and reinstalled Vista Home 32bit with all current Windows updates etc. However throughout the week, he's been having a few error messages appearing for example:

1) "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog". Failure - Security Options. There will be an "OK" option to select.

2) "dwm.exe - Application Error" The instruction at 0x6ff95adc referenced memory at 0x6ff95adc. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status 0xc000000e. Click on OK to terminate the program".

I've researched these individually but nothing concrete with what the issue could be. I've also read that disabling Superfetch with Vista is recommended, however are there any other things I could try?

Thanks in advance!

I do not recommend turning of Superfetch if there is plenty of RAM to spare for optimal application loading.

Those seem to be errors that imply an issue with the RAM or GPU. I recommend that you use a memory tester to make sure that the system RAM is fine.

Is your SSD running the latest firmware? A quick check on OCZ's website says the latest is v1.5 for the Vertex 4.

You will also want to make sure that the latest available BIOS for the motherboard is installed.

Also make sure the latest chipset and possibly HDD controller drivers are installed.

Is your friend's machine overclocked? I lost 100MHz off my OC after installing an SSD. Had a bunch of BSOD, gpu driver crashes, program hangs and other crashy badness until I backed down the OC.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. Definately some things I could try here, will updating the SSD firmware require a new install? I'm hoping not have to reinstall the OS again.

Ehren8879 - No his PC is not overclocked.

Normally, a SSD firmware update isn't destructive. But in the case of the most recent update for the Vertex 4, it is desctructive. So take a backup, update the firmware, reload the backup.
