Ok, I posted about this before here, as I thought it was my OC making my system unstable, but found out it wasn't. I have since reformatted and installed vista 4 times, and it happens every time, the system was stable for a long time with 2 HD3870's in crossfire and a 3GHz OC on my E2180. But I had the power go out when the PC was on, and that's where it all started.

I thought maybe the HDD was going as it seems to crash faster the more and more the HDD is accessed. I ran it through some tests and the WD tool, and it passed.

After I reinstall Vista it's good for about a day, and then I start getting "Host Process" errors and then BSOD's to the point all I have to do is open a few FF windows and in about 10-20 mins BSOD. If I want to BSOD it really fast all I have to do it transfer some files from one HDD to another, it will only take about1-2 mins for it to BSOD then.

The last time I reformatted and installed I didn't add anything, but some basic software and drivers to make sure it was not something I was running. I also don't have any OC's and only 1 HD3870. Is this something the PSU could be doing? I have been told that many times here that I need to get a better PSU (rosewill 600W) or something else? I am at wits end having to reinstall the OS every week, as it BSOD's faster and faster, to the point it's hard to even logon to the pc.

Have u tried installing the latest bios update. I too own a p5q pro...its freaking annoying. I had crashes and other crap on my quad core setup. I hope that the problem has been fix through reinstalling the chipset driver, graphic driver, sound, network and installing the latest bios update (which was a must because there was an issue with quad core cpus and the older bios. I spent the entire half day on friday playing with the bios settings and just ran prime95
for 11+ with no problems. But the problems appears during the week...so I need to monitor the comp for at least a week to make sure nothing is wrong.

Honestly, the p5q pro has been a mistake for me....too many troubles: cold starts, BSOD (black and blue), and plain old crashing. I have fixed most of the problems and now, the crashing has been a problem

Also, please install memtest onto a disk and run it (it will run by itself before boot) This will check if there's any problem with your memory. If there is, even one problem, you need to contact the memory company and ask for a replacement)

If the memory is all good and you still have problems I recom. installing the latest bios 1406 (asus website---> when prompt for OS ---> click other you should see bios 1406)
set your memory timings to company's specs.

If you are going to reinstall windows, I recom. install the OS, then install all the updates including SP1, chipset driver (intel p45), audio driver (installed, but still), network driver (install the latest one from the atheros website (there's a new one + also install this driver before hand if the network driver is not auto installed), graphic drivers and hope everything is good to go.

Good Luck.

If nothing works....then you should RMA your mobo. Remember, you have a 3yrs warranty.

How long do u run prime95 and intelburn (run 10)? and see how that goes once u get everything stable.

That's the thing, I can OC to 3GHz and run intelburn, prime etc for 24 hours straight and no crashes, 100% stable, just like before I had the power outage at my house which seems to have started all this. I have run memtest, RAM is fine, so are the HDD's.

The mobo has the latest everything, bios/drivers etc. but after a day or so (sometimes sooner) it starts crashing and BSODing at random, even if the pc just sits idle. I mean I can run all the tests again, but I have run all them close to 7 times each.

Also, my OS disk IS an SP1 disk, I also activate and update after the install.

Can you try using another PSU? Also, I would suggest using another power strip.

If that doesn't work. Then you should RMA your mobo.

I replaced my Rosewill 600W last week and since then, I got no more system freezes nor BSODs like I have been getting every other day for the past 3 months. It's that damn power supply. It's terrible. It only has a total of 35A on the 12V rail and that isn't sufficient for contemporary computers (Quad-cores, GTS & GTX graphics cards, etc...)

I've gone through what the people are suggesting to you. The problem is the power supply. Get the Corsair 650W or above and you'll be fine.

I can try another PSU...If I buy one. And it's not the power strip.

Well, I am only running a E2180 (stock since I have been having trouble) and a HD3870, with 2 HDD's, 600W's and 19A from each rail should be more than enough for that, IF the PSU is good.

Also, if this ends up being the PSU, what would you guys go with? Been looking at these, in case this turns out to be the problem.

Also, if there is another NOT in that list you think would be a better choice I would like to keep it under $150 and modular is preferred.

The Thermaltake W0116RU 750W would be the one.

is the psu still cover under warranty? If it is...then you should give them a call and ask for a replacement...if possible.

Luck!

I doubt it, its been well over a year. Even then, I would rather just buy another than have to wait on one to come back.

That's what I'd recommend. It's cheaper and a single 12V rail is better for OCing. Besides, the CORSAIR power supplies are one of the most efficient.

Your video card is enough to max out the amperage on the 12V rails. This Rosewill PSU is only about 75% efficient with a max of 35A on the 12V rail as it says in its specifications. It's not even 19A + 19A. 35A isn't enough for system stability, even yours. Think of it this way; even if it doesn't solve the problem (the new PSU), you would have upgraded your system significantly because as I said, your current power supply is horrible (I had it till a week ago). Either way, your system would be more stable.

Yeah, its a nice PSU...But not modular and I am really leaning to a modular PSU, as the inside of my case is a mess with wires.

So I am leaning more to the SILVERSTONE DA800, and at 66A I don't think I will have to worry about power for a wile.
