Greetings,

First off let me preface this. I am not a power user and don't game a lot, flight sim is about it. But I do share the computer with my wife and son and we all have our stuff open and switch users often. I'm running Vista 32 now with 2GB of memory. Is it worth it to either upgrade to 4GM of memory, or go to Vista 64 with at least 4GB memory?

Thanks!

If you feel like backing up all your files, i would say go for 4gb + Vista 64.

4GB memory is, all kidding aside, under 50 bucks.

Even if you're stuck with 32 bit, and all you see is 3.5gb > it would help with all 3 of those accounts open at once. You'll feel the extra memory kick in.

Hell i'd buy 8GB.

4GB of RAM is easy to get for under $20 these days (after mail in rebates), and 8GB - if your mobo can support it - while seemingly insane is a good idea if you can get it and that mobo supports it. I grabbed 8GB of Patriot "Viper" DDR2 800 4-4-4-12 RAM the other day, $44.99 for 2x2GB kit and I snagged 2 of 'em, so about $95 out the door of Fry's with tax, but there's $40 in rebates on 'em (2x$20) sooo...

I don't have much luck with rebates but I'm damned sure hoping this comes back to me. :)

Max that system out with RAM if you can, and definitely move to Vista x64 since the Product Key you have to x86/32bit Vista works just fine for the same edition of x64 Vista.

Your flight sim and your son's games will thank you...

Flight Sim's usually crave memory, so I'd do it in a heartbeat. I just went from 4 GB to 8 GB for $25.99, so if you can obtain the x64 media, from a friend or from Microsoft, you are looking at a huge upgrade for $50 or less.

x2 with what everyone else said above me. More RAM = better. And now it's very cheap. And Vista64 = sex. Much nicer than Vista 32-bit (feels like night and day, i have no idea why).

You might as well since memory is so cheap. IIRC, if you have a retail copy of Vista Microsoft will send you the 64-bit disc for ~$10.
