I can't seem to get vista 64 to install on my new system. I put it together last night and booted to bios, shut down and then went to bed. After work today I came home and sat down to start installing os and drivers etc etc. Put vista disc in optical drive and restarted. Came up with "loading windows files" then finished that and just sat at what appears to be a background for a welcome screen but never loaded anything. HDD activity light keeps flashing randomly but nothing loads, no dvd drive activity. I restarted a couple times and once it gave me a bsod, so i went in an changed the RAM timings and volts to factory specs, also took out one stick because i have heard a lot about systems not wanting to boot with two sticks.

System:
xfx 780i mobo
E6700
4 gb GEIL 5-4-4-12
500 gb wd
256 xfx 8600gts 675
750w psu
lite on dvd
antec 900

how long did you wait? sometimes things can take waaaay longer than expected.

So you DID install windows and it is failing before booting into the OS or it is failing before getting to the install screen?

I was unable to install. Unless installing vista only takes about 2-3 minutes, in which case kudos to microsoft ;)

The previous Nvidia boards had trouble installing with more than 3 GB of system memory installed. Try pulling one stick, and trying again. Also, check all your BIOS options.

Interesting, well I don't know if its the same but when I was trying to put together a hackintosh the os would be pickey about what mode the SATA was configuted as. Pull up the bios and see if its set as AHCI or whatever and try to change that and see if it has an effect....I don't really know but hey, its something to try right.

On installation did you opt for downloading the updates needed for installation?
