So I just bought this card, through these forums actually, and put the 3850 in my newish build. In CS:S with all settings possible turned down or off, I'm averaging 30 fps and seeing as low as 10 fps. WIth my old system, which had a 6600 GT, I saw better fps than this.

My current build:
P4 Prescott Single-Core 2.66Ghz

Asus P5K-E

Antec Smart Power 2.0 450W

Mushkin 4 gigs DDR2

Nothing I've tried so far has improved the frames I get in CSS. Even CS 1.6 runs very oddly. I have no idea exactly what to speculate.. I'm thinking there's possibly an issue with the CPU vs. RAM, or possibly CPU vs. video card.. maybe even a combination of the 2..

Anyone?

I presume you've installed the newest drivers, and uninstalled the nVidia stuff before doing that?

I concur. If you have indeed cleaned off the older drivers and installed the latest ones, the next step would be to reformat and test on a fresh install of Windows.

Thanks for the replies. My friend and I realized the issue. Check the FSB of my mobo vs. the FSB of my cpu, lmao.

Ouch. Guess I'm going cpu hunting shortly.

That doesn't mean anything. Your framerates should still be much higher, even if you don't have the greatest CPU. There's no guarantee that upgrading your CPU will solve the problem.

Oh, the thing is is that my mobo doesn't techinically support my CPU's fsb. So the fact that it is actually running it means it's doing some crazy stuff with underclocking things, etc.

Though I am popping the card into a friends computer soon. His set-up for all intents and purposes should run the card without a hitch.

That's a good idea. If you could get your hands on some different components to test in your system, that would be good as well.

Just to add, if your processor works in the motherboard then it supports your FSB ;). Regardless of whether the motherboard is running at a much lower FSB than it's rated for, the fact remains that your system should easily be able to handle CS:S.
