Vision Tek 4850 Review

w00t AA is fixed! :)

Yeah, at least we know that so far. I want more than just synthetics and CoJ, hopefully he'll get Crysis working...

Edit: I found some 9800GTX benches in CoJ for comparison:
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/5363-bfg-9800gtx-512mb-review-13.html
http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/xfx_9800gtx/11.htm

Now those are with slower CPUs and different setups, but it gives you some general comparison. The settings may be slightly different too.

When I first read that review I was thinking "Whats so impressive? I get like 37fps on average with the same settings!"...and then I realized that I was comparing a $199 ATI 4850 to my 8800GTX SLI setup. Wow. I wonder why we haven't seen any 4870 benches yet, don't both cards come out on the same day? I wonder how much better that card will do? Will it really have $130 more performance (based on a rumor that it would retail at $329)? I wonder how 4850 CF is going to do?

i think ATi has a chance this round, i was hoping this round would be AMD "C2D vs the AMD64" scenario, NVIDIA got to comfy being on top and let their guard down so here comes the 2nd place person to kick some arse!

Looking good! With AA fixed, good performance and even better price point, this card is destined to be a hit. Waiting a word on heat and noise levels..

needs more forged alliance, UT3/Bioshock/FFOW/etc Unreal Engine 3 games, COD4, world in conflict perf. #'s

just so we can compare them to benchmarks that are currently available on the net

nobody cares about call of juarez dx10 benchmark tbh, or crysis really as it's a pretty terrible gauge of performance as seen numerous times on different websites. i'm not saying to not bench crysis, but i'm saying... do something similar to how [H] does their benchmarking with in-game fraps runs, just my opinion

edit: according to PCGamer, World In Conflict 2560x1600 4x AA = 33FPS on GTX 280

that's pretty insane lol, though the GTX cards coming out are ridiculous when it comes to scaling up in resolutions

Crysis results are added. How do they compare to other cards? Also their 3Dmark 06 results seem a little low. The hong kong benchmarks showed over 15k 3DMarks while these guys only got just over 14k, with a 3 GHz Extreme CPU. My 8800GT scores 10k 3DMarks with a much slower CPU. Overclocked 9600GT cards with fast CPUs are already coming close to 12k. Seeing as they also had problems with Crysis, maybe some driver issues etc. are holding the card back slightly.

At this point ATI and Nvidia would do us, and themselves, a favour by allowing the big hardware sites to publish their reviews. We already know the details and the benchmark results, they don't have anything more to hide The bigger sites have more resources to analyze the results, compare them with current cards, look at the gameplay improvements and so on.

Wow, I was looking at getting 4870s for CF, but it looks like I'll be getting two 4850s! Does CF support a triple configuration? My board has three x16 (albeit one running at x4).

Yes, you can run up to four cards at a time with CrossfireX (and up to 8 monitors! :) - I think, I know it supports multiple)

impressive scores. Like i said before the only reason nvidia took lead longer than usual was becuase ATI was busy with the merging matter, it was fun while it lasted for nv boys.:p

can someone with an 8800gts g92 run the crysis test, all high 1440x960, and 4xaa please the same as that, in the next few days i was going to get an 8800gts to replace my 3850 256 mb, but if this is better im going to wait (my native res is 1440x900)

i would, but i was never able to get that benchmark to run with my online-purchased version of crysis on vista 64bit, for whatever reason

alright, thanks anyway, anyone who can run the benchmarks can you please try :)

Wait a second. On page 5 someone lists that they got 30fps with everything on high at 1920x1200 and no AA, but I only get 35fps using 8800GTX SLI??? How is that possible? Is he using some custom config or is the 4850 just that fast?

I hope it IS really that fast, because that will give me super high expectations for the 4870X2.

If you read through that thread, someone else using SLI was wondering the same thing. However, someone else using only one card was only something like 4 FPS slower. So basically it looks like SLI isn't scaling well at all. You can read through that thread if you want to find out more. That's all I remember off the top of my head.

wow, its great to see a good performing card at a reasonable price range. None of this crazy $650 stuff.

damn. granted he is running a QX9650 @ 5GHZ but still...we all know how little CPU matters beyond a certain point at high rez.

might forgo the step "up" to GTX260 and sell my 9800GTX and go dual 4850s instead...i loved my ATI cards and am glad they are competitive again.

wow thats really good, Just ran my 8800gts 640 meg over clocked at 620/930 against it at 1680x1050 no aa and it beat my gts by 8fps. Hmm , I might have to look into one of these.
