Virus maybe?

My roommates computer started acting strange a couple days ago. When it turns on, the start bar is gone, icons can't be moved around, and no programs will start. So far no anti-virus has found anything. I'm at a loss. Running ComboFix doesn't find anything, but once it makes the computer restart at the end of its scan, things work fine.

try trendmicro's free online virus scanner.. been using it for a while now on other peoples systems that run crappy AV scanners like norton and mcafee.. and is far more up to date then either of those AV scanners..

Got MalwareBytes to run, but the computer blue screens during the scan on most scanners. Dunno if this is a virus, of if part of windows just got royally effed.

Did someone play the old trick of taking a screenshot of the desktop, setting the screenshot as the background, then turning the taskbar and icons off ? Guess that still wouldn't explain why programs don't start though, unless you're trying to click the fake icons....

Kasperskys can be downloaded as a trial for 30 to maybe 90 days.IMO this is as about as good a scanner as you can get but, there may be some damage already done that can not be reversed.
