Virtualized gaming options

So, GPU passthrough really isn't the way to go for what I'm trying to achieve. What I really need are virtualized drivers that work with PCoIP for consumer grade AMD cards. I suppose this makes sense, because if the GPU is being exclusively given to a VM, then that means no other VMs will be able to use the device. The GPU virtualization driver would act as a mediator between the hardware available to the virtualization platform and the VM. Isn't this kind of what RemoteFX tries to do? I found the performance in that scenario to be extremely lacking for games.
 
there are many other solutions out there but IMO most are half baked or just publicly non existent. maybe give lucid a call for its VGware


ether way im still trying it out with consumer ATI cards and maybe a modded to quadro/teslar consumer nvidia card and see if its viable to chop the GPU up into bits for VMs. worst comes to worst my project will end up with 3-5 ATI 7770 cards permanently assigned to the VM

We were showing it off at VMworld, running games and 3dmark, live, in view desktops using PCoIP. It just takes the right card. It'll be fully supported in the next release, and already works in various forms.

you were showing one titan running multiple vms running games?

The entire thread is about hacking Nvidia cards to their professional counterparts, thus enabling some consumer cards to behave like pro cards and enabling their features.

If I understand this post correctly, the guy changed the ID of a GTX 680 so it would present itself as a Grid K2. I wonder if the VGX software would then run on that?

This is certainly a VERY hot topic. I just contributed some $$ to the guy who accidentally burned up his GTX 680 while modding. I am very tempted to try one of those modified cards, though I don't have any need now.

On a little different topic, I just published the Passmark results of a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit VM running on Xen 4.1.3 - see http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=112013&start=40#p702361. This should give some idea on how well virtualized desktops can perform.
