Virtualize ESXi - Lab- NICs don't work?

This little problem is beginning to drive me up the wall.

I have a physical ESXi host, with ESXi virtualized inside it for Lab/testing purposes(I don't run up a lot of VMs, it's more for CLI and configuration testing/education).

The problem I have, is that I can't seem to get more than one NIC to work on it. The first NIC will always be pingable/accessible. Any other NIC added simply won't work, despite what VLAN or vSwitch I put it on.

Any ideas?

Does the nested ESXi install see them? Are they in the same port-group? Did you set the port-group to allow promisc, MAC, and forged transmits?

Just to clarify, the ESXi installed on the hardware recognizes all physical NICs or not?

If you want the nested ESXi to see all physical NICs then you need to add all physical NICs to the non-nested ESXi network config first (in one or more vSwitches), and then add virtual network card(s) to the nested ESXi.

Post a screenshot of your non-nested ESXi network config.

ESXi can see all of the nics. It's just that only the first one will work. It's quite weird(The NIC with the lowest number is only pingable from other machines on that network, every other NIC doesn't seem to be reachable despite what network I put it on)

Ah sorry, yes I did. It didn't seem to work.

Interestingly though, if I add a second VMkernel to the NIC that works, that one also has the same problem

Could be a physical switch configuration issue. In your network config for the physical host, does the Cisco Discovery Protocol window for the physical NICs show the expected configuration (i.e. right vlan, etc.)?

It does say that CDP isn't available for the adapter. However it says that for the adapter that works(ish) too
