Alright, Virtualbox is driving me nuts. I'm playing around trying to get the autostart feature working. I'm testing in OS X but will eventually be using it on my OpenIndiana server.

I finally managed to get it working, but I can't seem to find a damn way to shut the machine down without unloading the autostart daemon. I shut the machine down or save the state and the daemon just brings it back up again. There has to be a way around this.

i feel your pain

i've spent quite a time re-installing vms like safe web serfer, ancient bank client etc inside virtual box and now going back to vmware workstation because of many issues and the one you have as well

:((

I've found several scripts that people had developed to do this before the feature was officially added in 4.2. I'm thinking I will go ahead and try them out because, honestly, they seem just as easy if not easier than the "official" method.

The startup script is relatively easy. The shutdown script just needs to make sure the system waits until the machines have shutdown/been saved before killing off the process.
