I want to play with linux without interrupting my windows folding machines, those in my sigs.
if i understand correctly i can have a windows box folding while i am using Virtual Box to have a linux os?

does that make sense? i want to play around with linux, learning enough to get both my machines and my next build running linux and folding.
I most likely would use the A8N-e which has Xp pro. would all i do i download/install VB , then install my linux os in the VB? and the folding would continue in the background just like it would if i was without VB?

Yes, you can install VirtualBox on the Windows XP host and run a Linux guest in VirtualBox while folding in Windows XP as long as you have enough memory for both Windows XP and the Linux distro of your choice.

You can also run the folding client on Linux within the virtual machine if you allocate enough memory to the virtual machine and enable the virtual machine network.

Read the user manual before downloading and installing VirtualBox.

Good luck.

Better yet just fold inside your linux virtual box. There is a tutorial here somewhere for that.

i will fold inside my virtual linux box when i learn enough, eventually i want to make all my folders linux. but if i understand right that i need 64 bit os to fold smp's. i only have 32 bit os now.

64bit linux distros are out there by the dozen and they're all a free download.

He would need VMWare for that. Virtualbox 2.0 supports 64-bit guests, but still no support for SMP, so no smp folding.

You must enable VT-x or AMD-V to run a 64-bit guest in VirtualBox 2.0.x, hence you will need a processor with virtualization support.
